A Letter To Cancer…

Cancer,

YOU SUCK.

There are many reasons why you are hated.   Here are my top three:

The children.  You make parents fear for their child’s life and, far too often, you take their most precious love away from them.  Only an entity as despicable and vile as you could cause pain and suffering in an innocent young child.  You force them out of their homes and into a hospital where they are poked and medicated with no choice but to comply so that our greatest hopes might be realized…TO RID YOU FROM THEIR TINY BODIES!

Leah.  You made my friend’s life stop so that she could go head to head with you, and guess what, she’s winning!  You think that you have given her strength, but you are wrong.  She had the strength before you came and ravaged her body and she will continue to have that strength as long as she has her beautiful spirit and friends to surround and support her.  You may have taken her breasts, but her family, her friends, and her spirit -you will not be able to steal from her.  You made her have bouts of sadness and anger, and for that I hate you.  We will continue fighting alongside her, and for that I pity you.  You have been eradicated and you will not return.

My dad. You weaseled your way into my family’s life and made my dad question his mortality before he needs to, and for that I cannot forgive you.  You think that in your slowest and most insidious forms that we should be thankful for you?  You are wrong.  I will be there every step of the way to make sure that you are staying put, laying dormant like the sniveling coward you are.  As hard as you will try to weaken his body, you will not weaken his mind, nor will you ever be able to weaken the bonds he has with his family, and, especially, his grandchildren who will always know him as strong and full of life.

FUCK YOU, CANCER.  THE FIGHT ISN’T OVER.

Grace

  1. I live in a city where cancer runs rampant due to the high level of manufacturing industry. I know many women who have been affected by the bc beast! This is a great piece! Thanks for sharing it!
