Whose Birthday Party Is It, Anyway??

Mina turns five next month, and we are ALL very well aware of it.

It is about that time to start the birthday party planning.  I have in my head what we’ll be doing.  A birthday party at Build-a-Bear.  When I gave Mina the great news, her face fell.  “Oh,” she said.

“Well, Mina, what do you want to do for your birthday?” I stupidly ask.

“Let’s have it at Pump it Up!!”  she excitedly declares.

I scrunch up my face (she can’t see me because I’m in the front seat). Gulp. “Pump it Up?”

“Yeah!  Pump it Up!!”

“Oh.”

I look at Ogre and we commence with our mumbling to one another at levels inaudible to Mina.

“Why does she want to go to Pump it Up??”

Ogre replies, “I dunno.  We should just do it at the house again.  That was easy.”

Yeah, easy for you.  I was up until 3am filling 20 little treat bags, making white chocolate coated chex mix and assembling 30 sandwiches and cutting them out into cute little princess style shapes.  All you did was show up and beat the dragon pinata that I drove 35 miles to pick up open when none of the 4 year olds could do it.

Out of my mouth comes, “Eh.”

I looked up Pump it Up last night.  It’s 200 bucks for an hour and half.  Seems like a rip-off to me.  We went to one of her little friend’s parties there once and they did have a good time.  It is her  birthday.  I can only shake my head in exasperation.  This is torturing me.  Pump it Up??

I asked her about Build-a-Bear again today.  She didn’t reply.
